This is our accepted design into the Red Bull Soapbox 2009 race in Los Angeles, CA. The race will be held on Saturday, September 26th on 5th Street and Grand Avenue in Downtown Los Angeles.We first decided to apply to the Red Bull Soapbox race for the challenge of coming up with a design that would be accepted. We were attracted to the grandeur that surrounds Red Bull events. Finally, we wanted to compete – to win.
Our initial inspiration was to have a car that would have to snake down the course, much like your favorite childhood hinged plastic snake toy. Then we came up with the idea of using the caterpillar from the Alice in Wonderland to give it some Southern California flavor with our proximity to Disneyland in addition to the hype surrounding Tim Burton’s highly anticipated 2010 release.
